Vol. 20: Fun Doesn’t Stop at Eminent SEO, Tips for Creatively Engaging Your Customers

Monster Mom

Ah, May… the month for Mothers!

A big Happy Mother’s Day to all you mommies out there! Here at Eminent SEO many of us are hard working moms and we know how much work goes in to being a mother!

A Fun Little Company Photo Shoot

Creative people spark creative ideas – this should come as no surprise, but how do you know when you’re working with a truly creative marketing firm?  At Eminent SEO, we want to highlight our creativity to make it more apparent to all our existing and new clients.  So, we decided to have professional photographer Bill Nash capture that aspect of our company’s personality in a recent photo shoot (you’ll be able to find this photo on our about page when it’s fully updated):

Why Creativity & Personality Sell to Online Consumers

Traditional marketing – where large corporations who were able to shout their message the loudest and get in your face with provocative ads – is losing its effectiveness.  In fact, Bill Simmons, of the Harvard Business Review, says traditional marketing is already dead.

Why is this happening?

It’s due mostly in part to the availability of the internet.  Prior to the internet, everyone had a television or radio, or saw advertising on billboards or flyers.  But now, with the internet available wherever you go, consumers can research companies, products, and services in their own way.  If they aren’t engaged nearly instantaneously, they move on to the next web site.  So, the key to advertising now lies in developing a unique, creative experience that almost immediately develops a personal connection with your online visitors.

At Eminent SEO, we use our creative personality to help you create a unique online experience for your online customers.

4 Tips for Creatively Engaging Online Visitors

In keeping with this newsletter’s theme, we figure it makes sense to give you a few ideas of how to quickly engage online searchers.  Here are a few ideas to help you get your own creativity flowing:

1. A Unique Web Design – Many websites you see have a home, services, about, and contact page.  This type of design does work, but in the web world, you can literally design your web page any way you want.  Check out this design at the Australian Census Bureau – who’d have thought a government institution would be able to show us something about creativity?

2. Show a Video on Your Home Page – Generally stated, video helps increase conversions.  With a short, but engaging, video on your home page, you stand to stick out from the crowd and provide your visitors with a unique experience.

3. Precision Targeting – With digital marketing, you can laser-target your market.  How?  By researching and targeting the right keywords (long-tail keywords), you have an excellent idea of what searchers are looking for and what type of content to create to increase conversions.  Your keyword might only have 200 searches per month, but if you convert 10 of those into paying customers, that’s much more valuable than driving traffic to your site with a higher search volume that has little to no conversions.

4. Social Media – Although your natural inclination is to think social media is there to promote your company (which it is), it works best as a listening tool.  You will learn the exact questions on your customers’ minds, you can ask them for feedback in the form of a survey and give them a chance to win a reward for participating, and you can also learn some of the exact keywords they use to search for your products and services by observing what they’re saying on your different profiles.

That’s All Folks!

We hope to have sparked your creative side in this month’s newsletter.  If you need a little help developing a more creative brand identity and online marketing strategy, feel free to call us at 1-800-871-4130 or contact us online.

Vol. 19: Silliness Going on at Eminent SEO, Hot SEO News & Tips

April: Keeping Things Light

A Note from our CEO

Clients are always asking about their organic rankings… So, Jenny Stradling, our CEO, wrote an interesting blog post about why you should NOT focus on your rankings. Check it out here:

Why Tracking Your Organic Search Rankings Will Drive You Insane

4 Hot SEO Tips you can Implement Right Now

Even though SEO is generally a long-term process, you can always do something to make your website a little more visible to the search engines.  Here are some quick things you can do to improve the attractiveness of your website to Google:

  1. Keyword research – Search behavior always changes – when was the last time you checked your keywords to see which ones work and which ones don’t?  Who knows, some long-tail terms (key phrases with 3 words or more) may also have appeared which may be easy to rank for.
  2. Build content – We do advise quality over quantity, but quantity helps too.  The more you update your website with fresh content, the more frequently search engine spiders crawl it and add your pages to their index.
  3. Attract links – Are you aware of several websites related to your niche whose users would benefit from your content?  Reach out to them, explain how your content would benefit their audience, and ask for a link.
  4. Build your social network – Consistent posting on your social networks is the easiest way to grow your following.  Make sure to use calls-to-action to encourage your followers to share.  Search engines give more love to websites with social media followers that share their content frequently.

Interesting Marketing Stats from 2012

Did you know:

  • For every $92.00 spent on acquiring new customers only $1.00 is spent on actually converting them?
    (source: Econsultancy)
  • 38% of online consumers abandon shopping carts when their delivery estimate exceeds 7 days.
    (source: ComScore)
  • Facebook posts that include the word “should”, “would” or “who” get more comments.
    (source: Hubspot)
  • Articles that contain images get 94% more views than articles without.
    (source: MDG Advertising)

Good to Know in SEO:

As we reflect on what we’ve learned since 2012 about SEO, we feel it’s important to emphasis one very important change that every website owner should incorporate into your 2013 marketing strategies:
Anchor Text Distribution in Linking – If you are a current Eminent SEO client, then you have probably heard me talking about anchor text distribution and how important it is to pay attention to it this year. Traditionally, organic SEO marketers focused on targeting specific keywords in the anchor text of their inbound marketing strategies. Although keyword targeting remains a powerful strategy for improving your organic search engine rankings, the Google algorithm updates in 2012 have forced SEO’s to change the way they incorporate it into inbound linking campaigns. Overuse of any one exact match keyword phrase in your backlink index can result in a BIG red flag with Google. Instead, it’s more important to focus on anchor text diversity, creating a more organic (authentic) backlink index that contains mostly direct click, URL and branded anchor text as links.

If you have received an artificial link warning in your Google Webmaster tools and you are concerned you might have too many inbound links for a target keyword – call us! We can evaluate your backlink index, help you scrub your “bad links”, build new links using the appropriate anchor text distribution and get that warning removed!

Vol. 16: Oh Look, It’s 2013 – What Are Your Company’s New Year’s Resolutions?

Max-monster-new-yearsHoly cow, is it 2013 already?!?
As Team Eminent SEO moves into 2013, we look back at the last year and reflect on what we did well, what we struggled with and what needs to change.

Jenny Stradling, our CEO, wrote a blog post related to an internal survey she conducted to get the team involved on making improvements going into the new year. She mentions in the post how important feedback from your team is, “I think that in order to have an effective team and productive teamwork, you have to continually get feedback, have group and individual discussions and integrate team ideas wherever possible.”

You can read the full post here: Why Teamwork is Important and Why We (Eminent SEO) Love Our Work

Business New Year’s Resolution

We all make personal resolutions at this time of year – resolving to finally go on that diet or hit the gym regularly, perhaps you want to travel, quit smoking, spend more time with your kids… all good, positive goals. But what about your company resolutions? Perhaps you have a company vision and maybe you even have a detailed mission statement that breaks down exactly where you want to take your company this year. Or, maybe you don’t.

Someone smart once said “A goal without a plan is just a wish”.Think about it. If you are looking to market a new product, raise awareness for your brand, dramatically improve company revenues… it’s not enough to have the vision, you have to have a plan.

First, you have to know what you want – be specific. Saying “I want to make more money” isn’t enough. You need to detail out exactly what you want. Think it through. Write it down.

Second, you have to develop a strategy that you can put into motion. How else are you going to get what you want? It would be nice if what we wanted simply fell into our laps, but unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. If you want to achieve a specific goal, you have to have a solid plan.

Third, put that plan into motion. If you aren’t sure how to reach your goals, reach out – have a team meeting, discuss your plan with the members of your company or others that you trust. Or, reach out for expert help. If you know what you need to do but don’t have the time, know how or in-house staff – hire someone who does!

Forth, start, implement, track and adjust. Knowing what you want, developing and plan and putting it into motion is a nice start – but even the best business strategy can fail. External sources can interfere, life can get in the way – don’t worry! It’s important to remain open minded and flexible. Keep an eye on what is happening and if something isn’t working, don’t be afraid to change course!

Is SEO on Your “To Do” List this Year?

Website_Checklist.1Well if it isn’t, it should be. SEO is an important part of any online marketing strategy. If you think SEO is dead, well you are wrong. Read more on why SEO will never die and get some free tips on how to do SEO the right way here:Why SEO is Not Dead

Vol. 15: Goodbye 2012, Hello 2013… and Happy Holidays from Team ESEO

Eminent SEO December 2012 Newsletter
Eminent SEO2012 was an exciting (and somewhat tumultuous) year for SEO and Marketing professionals. This past year has seen many changes in Google’s approach to rating and displaying website results within their SERPs through a series of algorithm updates, specifically called: the Penguin and Panda algorithm updates. These updates initially frustrated website owners and internet marketers alike, but as the dust settled, we all got a clearer view on how to successfully rank and market websites… for now.

The Benefits of Change

While all change will assuredly come with some growing pains (trust me, we felt them), the changes in the SEO industry did actually result in a few definite benefits for the web as a whole.

For Marketers:
The stricter guidelines imposed by new updates have actually sparked more competition on the internet, with certain business sectors seeing an increased need for cutting-edge marketing techniques. Before these changes, less-competitive markets could have websites accidently become a ranking authority without using a marketing strategy to achieve their goals. Now, marketing has become more of a necessity, as literally every single market has increased in levels of difficulty with all of Google’s changes.

For Web Searchers:
Another benefit of the 2012 changes is the increase in the quality of web content that search engines are returning. Websites listed in high search rankings are becoming increasingly more appealing, both visually and in content – from written word, to video and images. Google wants to serve up fresh AND relevant content, so if your site is outdated or lacking, it might be time for a facelift.

The Combination of Traditional and New Media Marketing Techniques:

For the past decade, there has been a big separation between traditional marketing and internet marketing. Advertisements for print were on a slow decline while internet marketing still seemed limited to those who have been practicing traditional marketing for many years successfully. 2012 brought these two forms together; as visual websites and apps, such as Pinterest and Instagram, became popular. They opened up a new format where visual advertisements could find a home. Without size limitations and high print prices, these social media apps and sites allow for traditional style advertisements to be broadcast to large audiences cheaply and effectively.

*NOTE: If your brand is not using these new outlets for advertising, let Eminent SEO consult you on how you can take advantage of these social sites that are growing rapidly in popularity. Just drop us a line give us a call.

Maximizing Visual Appeal, Visual Content and Getting Ready for the Holidays

Happy end of summer to everyone!

We here at Eminent SEO have had a great summer and are preparing to roll into our fall/winter season.

As we move into fall, marketing strategies and goals must change for every type of business E-commerce companies need to start strategizing for the up-and-coming holiday season, while service-based companies must solidify a balanced, and precise marketing strategy to continue through the rest of the year.

September Planning Leads to December Revenue

To help put the end-of year-goals into perspective, we have focused our September newsletter on services and products that can give you an edge over your competition in the next quarter.

Campaign Overhaul

By reassessing long-term goals and implementing new short-term goals, the scope of your marketing campaign can be rejuvenated and new prospects and niches can be discovered.

Maximizing Visual Appeal

How does your website look to your audience? Is it appealing? Do your design, content and website images evoke the right user response? Now is the perfect time of year to take a step back and view your website as your audience views it and make those little changes that have been put off this year. Those little aesthetic changes can maximize conversion rates and add to your ROI.

Strengthening Social Standings

Trends and analytics prove that social network traffic increases exponentially in the fall months. The audience is there, are you attracting them to your site?

Technical Touch-Ups

Take some time this fall to survey the technical aspects of your website. Whether you have API, shopping carts, automated email, site plug-ins, or simply CSS, take some time and budget this month to optimize those back-end functions and make sure your website functions are running smoothly. Fixing back-end issues will not only provide users with a pleasant experience, but may also increase the “crawl ability” of your site and positively affect rankings in Google.

The Growing Power of Visual Content

While written content is still very important to both functionality and appeal of a website, visual content is becoming more and more sought-after by the majority of the online community. Sites like Pinterest and Instagram have leapt in popularity in the past 6 months, proving that eye-candy is a great attractor. Recent trends point to the fact that viewers are 4 times more likely to share and recommend web content with an appealing image, over typed content alone. This being said, Eminent SEO has expanded our graphic services for clients and plans on using the following techniques for our own branding and marketing.

Images as Content for Marketing:

  • Social Link Bait: Pinterest, Tumblr, Instagram… what one thing do they all have in common? Images! If you want “free links” you have to create great, sharable images. Ask us about our new Social Link Bait services.
  • Social Media: You might have a Facebook, a Google + or a Twitter account, but who is managing it? Are they sharing images? Updating your page with new images regularly? No? Ask us about our Social Media Management Packages.
  • Website Images: By optimizing and enriching your images with keywords, you can draw traffic to your website through the indexing of that image file in Google and the other major search engines. Ask us about our Image and Video Optimization Services.

You can pretty much find us everywhere, so be sure to connect with us on your favorite social media site… Let’s get social, it’s fun!
