I got involved in digital marketing when...
I got my start in digital marketing in 2005 at a local agency focused primarily on link building. Before that, I had explored several different career paths and most recently worked as a restaurant manager. I was ready for a change from the long hours and late nights, but that experience taught me a lot about leadership, customer service and how to keep moving in a fast-paced environment.
When I entered the SEO industry, I knew very little about how websites or Google worked. I was initially hired as a billing assistant, but I quickly noticed other ways I could help the company and began learning everything I could about online marketing.
I loved that the industry was always changing. There was always something new to learn, test or improve, and I knew almost immediately that I had found the right career.
In 2009, Chris and I founded Eminent SEO because we believed there was a better way to do digital marketing. Since then, we have grown from an SEO-focused agency into a multi-channel marketing company specializing in search strategy, content, website design, brand development and integrated campaigns.
I still love the balance between data-driven strategy and creative work. I also love being part of a team that cares deeply about the quality of what we produce and the businesses we help.
As one of my favorite authors, Tom Peters, says, “Evolve or die.”
Since getting into the industry, I’ve noticed...
When I started working in SEO in 2005, the industry looked very different.
At the time, link building was often the primary focus. Companies relied heavily on rented links, paid links and large volumes of keyword-focused content. Website quality, user experience and brand credibility did not receive the same attention they do today.
Those days are gone.
Modern SEO includes technical optimization, high-quality website design, content strategy, internal linking, structured data, local search, digital PR, reputation management, brand development and much more.
Search is changing again as people use ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity, social platforms and video to research brands and make decisions.
I do not see that as the end of SEO. I see it as another evolution.
Businesses still need useful content, a trusted brand and a strong website. They simply need to be visible across a broader and more fragmented search journey.
SEO can be difficult, but that does not make it impossible. The companies that succeed are usually the ones willing to invest in quality, adapt as search changes and focus on what their customers genuinely need.
Outside the office, I like to...
Outside of work, I love spending time with Chris, our kids and our growing family.
I also enjoy painting, writing, singing, cooking, photography, digital art and crafting with the kids. I love reading, yoga and listening to podcasts about business, marketing and personal growth.
Creativity has always been a big part of my life, and I think it is one of the reasons I enjoy marketing so much. I get to combine strategy, problem-solving and creative thinking every day
