What’s New in SEO: Google Makes Significant Core Algorithm Update, Adds Panda to It

In the early part of January, Google caused a stir by quietly updating its core search algorithm, which impacted traffic volume on websites across the board. Google later announced that it had added the Panda series of updates to its core ranking algorithm, although the company did not say when exactly this move was made. Panda updates generally target and downplay websites that have low-quality content — such as spam, too many ads, excessive duplicate content, and content with little-to-no added value (aka thin content).

Although they seem to be related on the surface, the early January core algorithm update and the addition of Panda to it actually appear to be two separate events. Panda may have been added to the core search algorithm in late 2015, for all we know.

SEO experts haven’t quite figured out the breadth of what Panda’s addition to the core algorithm means, but they are optimistic that Panda updates will happen more frequently, albeit not in real time. In other words, the updates will roll out slowly.

To not let your website get negatively impacted by Panda updates, focus on delivering high-quality content with significant added value on each and every page. Don’t just regurgitate what you’ve seen on other similar sites. Make sure you answer all relevant questions in a user’s mind when he or she lands on your page. Featured Service: Website Audits

Before we start sprucing up and adding to your website, we need to know the entirety of what we’re dealing with. This is where our website audit services come in.

Our website audit process is a multi-faceted approach. We look over your website’s structure, and we figure out if you have any 404 errors, “orphan” pages and missing metadata. We also conduct a competitive analysis to see how you measure up against your competition.

Additionally, we run a backlink audit to gauge the quality of the external sites that are linking to yours. This service is crucial in light of the aforementioned Google Penguin algorithm update. We can identify if you’ve received a penalty from Google or if you’re in danger of receiving one in the near future.

Finally, we test how quickly your pages load. If we discover slow loading times, we dig deeper into what’s holding your website up, so that we know where the next move needs to be made.

Until next time, see ya online!

Penguin 4.0 will be really huge. Another step forward to eliminating any spammy content on the Internet. Hopefully, it will arrive until the end of March.
