Zodiac Traits in the Workplace

Whether you are into it or not, your zodiac sign has a strong influence over you – they have an uncanny way of aligning with our personalities—and of course, our personalities factor greatly into our professional selves.

I have provided the astrological traits, as published by the University of California, Davis – and added my own thoughts on these to help keep you on track or take advantage of in your own work world (and beyond).

What’s Your Sign?

Aries – The Ram (March 21 - April 20)

Aries – The Ram
(March 21 – April 20)

Pros: Adventurous and energetic, pioneering and courageous, enthusiastic and confident, dynamic and quick-witted.

Cons: Selfish and quick-tempered, impulsive and impatient, foolhardy and daredevil.

Natural born leaders, a characteristic that shines most on the job, this makes them for an enthusiastic, driven, and innovative employee or boss. As one of the biggest go-getters of the zodiac, they pursue their ambitions and career goals with a fierce determination and focus, refusing to take ‘no’ for an answer. They are likely to be the first to volunteer and be gung-ho about any project presented.

They are likely to be the first to volunteer and be gung-ho about any project presented.

Look for careers that appeal to the daredevil within – while a position of ‘power’ may not be where they are, but they still need some autonomy to feel as if they are in charge. No matter what kind of work is pursued, their career has to be something that stokes the fire within.

Consider Jobs in these fields:

  • Politics
  • Athletics
  • Advertising
  • Military
  • Coaching

Taurus The Bull

Taurus – The Bull
(April 21 – May 21)

Pros: Patient and reliable, warmhearted and loving, persistent and determined, placid and security loving.

Cons: Jealous and possessive, resentful and inflexible, self-indulgent and greedy.

Dependable and typically unfazed by the emotional craziness that clouds the minds of others, those ruled by Taurus know the huge advantage their strong, dependable work ethic creates. They prefer to focus their steady, unwavering energies to ventures with a high-quality, guaranteed return. Taurus is also known for their generosity and loyalty.

They are super reliable, have a strong sense of discipline, and are often seen as super stubborn and persistent – in fact they can be quite bull-headed (lol). Taurus needs stability, routine and comfort. They need a career where they feel part of the team, that the work they do makes an impact – a difference in other people’s lives. They also desire long-term financially stable careers as they are willing to pour their heart and soul into it.

Consider careers that follow a routine, but allow for some level of creativity. Taurus naturally gravitates towards jobs or tasks involving repetitive work – however, they should not allow their space to become cluttered or dingy. Taurus is highly thorough and extremely productive and should consider jobs with an attention to detail.

Consider Jobs in these fields:

  • Banking
  • Reporter
  • Chef
  • Cinematography
  • Author

Gemini - The Twins

Gemini – The Twins
(May 22 – June 21)

Pros: Adaptable and versatile, communicative and witty, intellectual and eloquent, youthful and lively.

Cons: Nervous and tense, superficial and inconsistent, cunning and inquisitive.

As masters of communication, quick wit and charm, it only makes sense that they wish to pursue a career with lots of opportunities for self-expression. To stay at any one job for any length of time, they require a certain level of flexibility in their jobs – they are animated, with no lack of imaginative energy and typically reject structure, growing easily frustrated with routine. If they are not kept engaged – they are liable to grow bored and use their talents elsewhere (perhaps the dark side) or may leave altogether.

Their ability to adapt makes it easy to hop around between projects and tasks. A typical career does not suit them well – they need a job with the freedom to define their own schedule and constantly evolve. Self-employment is preferred by most Geminis as they are very independent and hate to ask for help – despite their knack for conversation. And their inability to admit they are wrong will hinder their progress.

Geminis are drawn to careers that span the communication and tech fields, such as journalism, advertising, start-ups, and software engineering. Consider careers in music or comedy – a Gemini’s gift for creative thinking and communication make these also great options. Any field just as diverse and multi-faceted as they are – calling upon their many skills and talents. They may hold more than one job at any given time – and a job that allows for travel or remote work is vastly more enjoyable than being stuck at a desk all day.

Consider Jobs in these fields:

  • Travel
  • Business
  • Journalist
  • Teacher
  • Media Personality

Cancer The Crab

Cancer – The Crab
(June 22 – July 22)

Pros: Emotional and loving, intuitive and imaginative, shrewd and cautious, protective and sympathetic.

Cons: Changeable and moody, overemotional and touchy, clinging and unable to let go.

A fiercely self-motivated sign, Cancer can be quite the go-getter despite being characterized as overly sensitive. They thrive in starting ideas and actions in others. Their strong ties to family, friends and helping others drives them to seek out jobs that fill an emotional need to better the lives of others. They are very sympathetic and emotional and need to be in an environment that is warm and inviting – even if the work they do is challenging.

They thrive in jobs that value culture and community above all things. Cancer brings warmth and friendship to the workplace – but to offend or criticize them and you will wish you had never crossed their path. They will become cold and distant in a heartbeat – much like the way their namesake retreats into its sell.

As long as the emotional needs of them are met – they are an extremely loyal worker, and a team player in all respects. They are in tune to the emotional needs of those around them, and thrive on positive reinforcement. Those around Cancer should remember tangible appreciation is better such as an appreciative email, or small gift to let them know you noticed their efforts. (As a Cancer – you need to remember, not everyone is as thoughtful – but that doesn’t mean your efforts are unappreciated).

Consider Jobs in these fields:

  • Teacher
  • Lawyer
  • Doctor
  • Psychology

Leo The Lion

Leo – The Lion
(July 23 – August 21)

Pros: Generous and warmhearted, creative and enthusiastic, broad-minded and expansive, faithful and loving.

Cons: Pompous and patronizing, bossy and interfering, dogmatic and intolerant.

Known for massive, yet fragile egos, Leo’s are notorious show-off’s highly creative and endowed with a deep sense of pride. They thrive on validation and praise and crumble easy ridicule. They shine when they feel needed or admired – more so when the work they do aligns with their own personal values.

Leo’s follow their hearts in almost everything, and need a career that allows them the opportunity to show off their talents while still giving them enough autonomy (the king of beasts doesn’t follow orders well). They are also drawn to life’s luxuries – trips, expensive brands, high ticket items – so they typically go after careers that allow them to keep up appearances.

As their sign suggests, they not only crave recognition – they out right demand it. Their belief in their own exceptionalism, admittedly, isn’t far from the truth. They make wonderful bosses and co-workers thanks to their generosity and warmth, as well as their natural ability to lead. They will fearlessly tackle any job, and nothing, absolutely NOTHING will stand in their way. Remember, like the King of the Jungle who works with a pride – Leo’s also do better in a collaborative environment.

Consider Jobs in these fields:

  • CEO/Managerial & Leadership Roles
  • Politician
  • Editor-in-Chief
  • Teacher
  • Career Counseling

Virgo

Virgo – The Maiden
(August 22 – September 23)

Pros: Modest and shy, meticulous and reliable, practical and diligent, intelligent and analytical.

Cons: Fussy and worrier, overcritical and harsh, perfectionist and conservative.

Known for over-thinking, over-worrying, and over-working – Virgo will be happy as long as they have confidence in their abilities and let their work do the talking. Also characterized as ‘perfectionists’ their high, ridiculously high (and somewhat unrealistic) standards means they never deliver incomplete or shoddy work – their meticulous nature won’t allow it.

They are quick to judge their work – and will not hesitate in pointing out the flaws or mistakes in others. Their intent is not necessarily malicious – they just can’t stand the lower standards of others. They prefer to work remotely rather than in charge – but they will lead a project as easily as breathing. Their ability to take chaos and create order is uncanny.

Preferring peaceful, professional conditions, Virgo’s typically avoid workplace gossip. Their humble yet perfectionist attitude keeps them accepting praise from others, and rarely give it to themselves. They need to remember to loosen up every now-and-again and allow others (and themselves) to give them a pat on the back once in a while.

Consider Jobs in these fields:

  • Editor
  • Critic
  • Translator
  • Statistician
  • Medical Professional

Libra - The Scales

Libra – The Scales
(September 24 – October 23)

Pros: Diplomatic and urbane, romantic and charming, easygoing and sociable, idealistic and peaceable.

Cons: Indecisive and changeable, gullible and easily influenced, flirtatious and self-indulgent.

Libra’s confidence in their judgment can cloud their judgment, but no one can fool a Libra for long. They are highly capable, charming (just like Geminis) and passionate people who throw themselves into their work head first. They are flexible and typically have a wide variety of interests. Their negotiation abilities are off the charts.

They are fiercely loyal and are likely to perform well in nearly any profession. Not only do they need a career that provides them with a creative outlet, but they also need a job that provides a sense of fulfillment in helping others and making the world a happier place. They are social and adept at bringing people together so you’re a great mediator in and out of the office.

Always the team player – they will work tirelessly to find solutions and make friends every step of the way. Anything they set their minds to – they will accomplish, and will make it look easy, too. One thing Libra needs to remember is to pick a career they love and not give in to something they cannot put their whole heart into. They must learn to live for themselves, making themselves happy – not just those around them.

Consider Jobs in these fields:

  • Brand Ambassador
  • Team Leader
  • Lawyer
  • Socialist
  • Diplomacy

Scorpio - The Scorpion

Scorpio – The Scorpion
(October 24- November 22)

Pros: Determined and forceful, emotional and intuitive, powerful and passionate, exciting and magnetic.

Cons: Jealous and resentful, compulsive and obsessive, secretive and obstinate.

Intense. Scorpio’s intensity is legendary. Everything they do is full throttle, passionate, and in your face. Their unshakeable, almost disconcerting self-confidencemakes them come across as if they can accomplish anything, however they should be careful not to trample anyone worth keeping around as they go about things.

When they are committed to a goal, ANY goal, come hell or high water, it’s theirs to vanquish (and they do see it in that light). Which also means, they aren’t the best of team players. But their drive, laser-like focus and perceptive minds place them on the fast track to success. They rarely, if ever, do things half-heartedly. Scorpio is very much an “all-or-nothing” sign. Public opinions don’t matter – their own inner voice keeps them in check. Their outer calm hides the anger and frustration kept under the surface. They should vent or do some sort of physical activity to let go of some of the irritation they feel.

A Scorpio’s career path must be something they can pursue with everything they’ve got, pushingtheir limits, either physically or mentally or both. They should take note of constructive criticism rather than take it personally.

Consider Jobs in these fields:

  • Detective
  • Surgeon
  • Scientist
  • Research
  • Artist

Sagittarius - The Archer

Sagittarius – The Archer
(November 23 – December 22)

Pros: Optimistic and freedom-loving, jovial and good-humored, honest and straightforward, intellectual and philosophical.

Cons: Blindly optimistic and careless, irresponsible and superficial, tactless and restless.

Where Leo shines as “king of the jungle” – Sagittarius is the life of the party. Positive, idealistic and almost always at the forefront of the action, thanks to their seemingly limitless amounts of energy. They never seem to be out of new ideas that positively impact or inspire others.

Not unlike Gemini, Sagittarius needs a vast amount of stimulation to keep them focused on a project – they also don’t do well with micromanaging, so a job that allows for travel or the freedom to work on their own schedule provides them the right amount of freedom and opportunity to grow. Also, their ability to throw caution to the wind for a cause they believe in, inspires others to take notice of their influence.

While the lack of stimuli leads to fidgeting, a Sagittarius’ passion for other’s well-being is their saving grace. Sometimes appearing shallow or superficial, more often than not they care too deeply and are always learning and growing. The archer’s boldness and refusal to give up or back down is well known. Look for a career devoid of tedious or repetitious tasks.

Consider Jobs in these fields:

  • Counselor
  • Travel
  • Public Relations
  • Administration
  • Professor

Capricorn - The Sea-Goat

Capricorn – The Sea-Goat
(December 23 – January 20)

Pros: Practical and prudent, ambitious and disciplined, patient and careful, humorous and reserved.

Cons: Pessimistic and fatalistic, miserly and grudging.

Take a step back and a deep breath. Don’t make any hasty decisions without looking at everything from an objective point of view. Capricorn while typically patient, determined and manage to keep unbelievably cool under pressure – they are prone to single-mindedness and easily over-work themselves. They are practically built for the working world thanks to natural born leadership that stem from their self-starting nature and need to create and uphold the rules.

They crave the prestige and status that comes with being at the top of their career field which they achieve with a tortoise and the hare mentality (slow and steady wins the race). Their resolute, ambitious nature — tempered by a good deal of practicality — ensures they almost always get there. Unstoppably efficient and helpful, Capricorns work best when they give others the benefit of the doubt and stay focused.

While not intimidated or annoyed by authority—they know that with hard work, ambition, and commitment, will get them to the top. They love a good challenge and have the energy to see any task through to the very end. People admire Capricorn’s integrity and seek them out for guidance, but they need to remember that their own workload is usually more than enough. Don’t let the tendency to be a workaholic get in the way of other pursuits.

Consider Jobs in these fields:

  • Doctor
  • Engineer
  • Information Technology
  • Architect
  • CEO

Aquarius - The Water Bearer

Aquarius – The Water Bearer
(January 21 – February 19)

Pros: Friendly and humanitarian, honest and loyal, original and inventive, independent and intellectual.

Cons: Intractable and contrary, perverse and unpredictable, unemotional and detached.

Drawn to careers that allow them alone, mostly due to their need to question authority and ask the tough questions, Aquarius needs to leave their stamp on the world. Guaranteed to be an original, curious thinker, their interests don’t lie in selfish gains but rather that their efforts are contributing to a greater cause.

Their out-of-the box thinking, free spirit and wonderfully forward-thinking mind keeps them at the cutting edge of any industry. Mistakenly thought of as flighty or lazy workers – just the opposite is true. They are incredibly hard-working just not in the 9 to 5 sense. They are more likely to wake up in the middle of the night to work on a project – just to nap in the middle of the day because the work is “already done”.

Not everybody “gets” Aquarius, and their ideas are often initially dismissed are later thought of as ‘brilliant’. They are more often than not looking at the big picture (big – think huge, like galactic!) They are driven by a desire to serve as a positive influence on the world and channel this passion into their everyday lives.

Consider Jobs in these fields:

  • Social Worker
  • Fashion Designer
  • Astronomy
  • Aviation
  • Humanitarian

Pisces – The Fish

Pisces – The Fish
(February 20 – March 20)

Pros: Imaginative and sensitive, compassionate and kind, selfless and unworldly, intuitive and sympathetic.

Cons: Escapist and idealistic, secretive and vague, weak-willed and easily led.

More concerned with doing the best they can do, Pisces are flexible, compassionate and highly imaginative workers. The typical 9-5 will stifle their very nature and should seek out an environment where their individualism is better valued.

Sometimes mislabeled as “dreamy” or “spacey”, Pisces is vastly empathetic and possess eerily accurate instincts. Most often they are driven by their respect for something’s value or mission rather than the potential financial or personal gain. Their optimism inspires others, but they shy away from roles of leadership.

Pisces should stay away from jobs that are profit driven or competitive, their gentle, encouraging nature is not suited well to the demands of these careers, instead they should seek out careers that allow their more preceptive nature shine.

Consider Jobs in these fields:

  • Physiotherapist
  • Psychologist
  • Artist
  • Philanthropist
  • Therapist
